Summer Art Adventures with Giacometti @ The Guggenheim!

We continue to prepare for this Fall and our Summer tours by taking a trip to the Guggenheim this weekend to see the current exhibit on Giacometti. (click for more info on the exhibition)!

While mostly known for his sculptures, Giacometti was also a prominent Painter AND Printmaker. Who knew! He experimented & created multiple prints starting with wood etching with his father, Giovanni Giacometti (well known Swiss Impressionist Painter) when he was still a schoolboy!

A super educational retrospective and must see before it closes on September 12th!

FUN GIACOMETTI FACT: Ever notice how shadows are long and thin? Many of Giacometti’s sculptures are actually from his observation of the shadow!

We highly recommend visiting. Can’t make it with the family? Leave it to us to give your little Art Adventurer a tour!

Don’t miss this fun and exciting exhibition full of art learning opportunities for your little artist! We are pumped to share our sculpture and drawing projects with you.

Take this Museum Trip with Us!

or Join us for our Fall classes where we take many of our project inspiration from our Museum exploration!

Preparing Children for an Art Museum

There is a lot of feedback on how to do this, but the best way that takes the least time is to hire a professional!  Armed with more than pencil and paper, CCA tours engage and enlighten with myriad materials…. And show how to do it on your own.  For more info on taking your little one:  http://arts.gov/art-works/2014/preparing-children-art-museums

CCA tip:  Make it a Child-Directed trip-  Ask Museum Adventures for the Family!these questions about each piece they are drawn to:

What materials is it made from?
How do you think they did it?
Guess what the artist was thinking when they made it?
What do you like?
What do you not like?
How would you make your own version?

If you’re nervous about bringing more than a pencil & paper, make a list of what your child needs to make their own version, go together to get the supplies and follow it up at home.

Imagine how excited they will get about art.  And the interest they will have on their next visit!

Sol LeWitt Wall Drawing @ the Met with Art Adventures

We were lucky enough to watch this incredibly detailed process on and Art Adventures summer camp tour, by happy accident.  I’ve attached a link to the process if you are not familiar with his work, his instructions or his new Wall Drawing #370 at the Met!

We were there on days 10-14, when they were “inking” in the black.  The crew walked us through the process, showed us their materials, the written instructions (this was cool) and were fabulous with the kids and their questions! (and ours:) 2014-06-20 10.41.22

Thank You Students For An Incredible Year!

And for lending us your trust, becoming self-confident individuals, working together and having incredible ideas with which to work!  We celebrate your uniqueness, your effort, focus and of course- sense of humor!  Have a great summer.

William Wegman Studio Visit

We were sooo excited to meet the dogs, but seeing Bill’s paintings were a real treat!  Catch our crew in his studio…

Honored to be invited, Bill was amazing with the kids…Who said it was the best studio visit ever!
