November means Museum Art Adventures!

For our first museum tour this new school year, we traveled to the Guggenheim Museum of Art!

Our Art Adventurers viewed the Guggenheim’s Artistic License & Basquiat exhibitions exploring lines, shapes and symbols, oh my!

It was all about abstract modern and contemporary art reviewing

our forms & sculptures with Giacometti;

geometric shapes, lines and patterns with Louise Nevelson; negative space, balance & color with Louise Bourgeois;

and finally, use of symbols, words and emotions with Basquiat.

Memories of Fall ART. Yayoi Kusama. New Fall ART 2019 Season.

With our Fall 2019 Art Season just around the corner, we couldn’t help but reminisce on last season. This article featuring Yayoi Kusama, reminded us of OUR version of her Infinity Rooms with reflective Mandalas! #ThrowbackThursday time!

Yayoi Kusama ‘Infinity Mirror Room’ Will Alight in Connecticut This Fall

Our Art Adventurers constructed Infinity Room Dioramas using the reflective walls to create the illusion of a completely drawn Mandala circle.

Happy Spring! Sakura Matsuri. Cherry Blossoms. Bonsai. Japan.

This weekend is Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens! Aka the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. In celebration of this traditional Japanese event and beginning of Spring, we created our own version of cherry blossom bonsai tree sculptures. Building an armature from wire was key in order to create a balanced structure to add layers of clay and cherry blossoms made of tissue paper to our miniature tree. The results were beautiful!

IN CCA TODAY: SNOW DAY ART DAY @Art Adventures!

The Winter Snow was our theme this week for Art Adventures: From Salt dough Snow Mama & her babies (with our 2-5 year old classes) to Winter Wonderland Salt Watercolor Landscape exploration (our 8-11 year old class)! It was a fun snow art day for all ages.

Chinese New Year: Year of the Pig… & Calligraphy Art for Art Adventures!

Last Week was Chinese (Lunar) New Year! We celebrated by sculpting a pig with air dry clay, painting with acrylics, then exploring Chinese Ink, Iridescent Watercolor paints & Bamboo brushes to create beautifully balanced abstract Calligraphy paintings! Practice, Practice, Practice was the name of the game when using our Line & Shape Families to create with the ink.

Happy Halloween!

Le Finale! The Day has arrived with our Spooky but fun Giacometti Plaster wrap sculpture Haunted Scenes! Ghosts & Spiders & skeletons (sculpted of course!) …oh my! We arranged and constructed our Halloween scenes with our suspending spooky Giacometti inspired heads!

Have a spooky but creative Halloween!!
