Mother’s Day Art Terrariums @ CCA

To ALL MOMS NEAR AND FAR, Hope your Sunday was a very special day for you! We celebrated Moms the only way we know how…through love and ART! Our Art Adventures explored nature & art through dot art/ Mandalas and planting their very own Terrariums!
Mandalas are a spiritual/ritual symbol found in multiple cultures and faiths (both past & present) representing the universe. In celebration of all Moms in this universe and in our own circle of life, we created Mandala art or dot art on glass that carried our little succulents and on the stones that fill them. Students then follow step by step instructions to plant and care for their succulents.

Ms. Claire led Girl Scout Troop 4740 from Long Island City with Troop Leaders Mildred & Luciana Lamberto through the Plaxall Gallery, sharing what it means to be an artist and how to approach making art!

Several LIC artists also shared their processes, from scultpure, dioramas to paintings, including hers -while they were working in their artist studios made available by LIC-A, the Plaxall Gallery and Edjo Wheeler

Exploring Lines, Shapes, and Color with our Mini’s Class

Our 2 year old Art Adventurers jumped right into curves, zigzags and straight lines in last week’s project. Continuing to develop those fine and gross motor skills, we played with crayons and liquid watercolor to create these “magical” wax resist watercolor paintings.

Try it at home! All you need are crayons, watercolor paints and a brush.  Be specific: Feel what a straight line does, how the body movements change with a curved line or spiral, or what it takes to actually make a zigzag (lots of self control, starting and stoping!) Make an abstract drawing, overlapping lines, or a spooky scene for the Halloween festivities for older children!

We love Art Museums!

A great way to appreciate ART, spend time with your family…and make Art

During our School Year and June Camps, we make sure to go on Museum Tour Adventures to create ART while surrounded by ART!

And sometimes we even BECOME ART!

Try it and visit a Museum with your family this Summer!

Mandalas in Art

The term Mandala, meaning circle or completion in Sanskrit, carries great symbolism in many world religions and philosophies. In the Art world AND in our classroom, the Mandala can bring on a form of creative therapy.

Our June Summer Camp Adventurers explored Mandalas and created their own version! Using elements found in “nature”, unity and balance were developed both in the art AND in the soul.

If interested in learning more about Mandalas and other forms of Asian Art, be sure to check out the Rubin Museum! And attend their annual block party this Sunday, July 17th, celebrating Nepalese culture as inspired by their recent exhibition: Nepalese Seasons: Rain and Rituals.
