Combining Art Forces with Yayoi Kusama & Mandalas

Our Art Adventures took us to a wedding! Marrying Japanese Artist, Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Rooms with the art of Mandalas in our 6-9 year old classes. CCA built our own reflection rooms to incorporate MATH and ART.
A mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, “mandala” is a Sanskrit word that means “circle”. Mandalas generally have one identifiable center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms.
What percentage would you need to design, in order to create the illusion of a full circle?
Notice the fact that only 2 surfaces were used, to create the 3rd and 4th illusionary planes which complete the circle!
Check out Washington Sq. Park or Union Square Park in NYC for daily large Mandala sand paintings by artist Joe Mangrum

5 Reasons Art is Important to Me:

Did we say 5? We just couldn’t stop there! Check out what our Art Adventurers are saying about Art after taking part in our after school programs/ tours.
